Frequently Asked Questions

Everything about buying and installing a basketball hoop — brands, choosing a system, the install process, coverage, and after-install care.

Hoops

What hoop brands do you install?

We install every major basketball hoop brand — Goalrilla, Goalsetter, Spalding, SOAR, Lifetime, Silverback, Pro Dunk, Mammoth, and more — plus any system you've already purchased. If it's a hoop, our certified pros can install it.

What hoop should I buy?

For the best experience, we recommend an in-ground system with a tempered-glass backboard between 54" and 72" — it's safer, sturdier, and plays like a gym. We don't recommend portable systems for regular play due to stability and safety concerns. Not sure which model fits your space and budget? Email us and we'll recommend the right hoop for you — then install it.

What is the difference between a portable hoop and an in-ground hoop?

A portable hoop sits on a wheeled base you fill with water or sand — no digging, and you can move it. An in-ground hoop is anchored in a concrete footing below the frost line, giving it a sturdier, gym-like feel with far less shake. In-ground is permanent and higher performance; portable is movable but far less stable.

What's better, portable or in-ground?

For performance and durability, in-ground wins — it's more stable, handles dunking and hard play, and lasts longer. We do not recommend portable hoops due to safety concerns. If you own your home and play often, go in-ground.

Do you sell hoops?

No, we don't sell hoops — we only install them. Want a recommendation? Email us and we'll recommend the right hoop for you. Already have a hoop? We'll install that too.

How much does a basketball hoop cost?

The best pro-grade in-ground systems run $2,199–$2,799. Portable systems typically run $300–$900, and entry-level in-ground systems $1,000–$1,500. You should never pay more than $2,799 — in our opinion, no hoop is worth more than that. Professional installation is additional and depends on your site. Book an install for an exact, all-in quote.

What size backboard should I get — 54", 60", or 72"?

72" is regulation — the gym and NBA size — and the best experience if you have the room. 60" is a great middle ground for most driveways. 54" fits tighter spaces. Larger backboards give more usable shooting area and a more authentic feel.

Glass, acrylic, or polycarbonate backboard — which is best?

Tempered glass delivers the truest, gym-like rebound and is what pro systems use. Acrylic and polycarbonate are lighter and less expensive but bounce back less true. For serious play, choose tempered glass.

How long does a basketball hoop last?

A quality in-ground system with galvanized steel, a powder-coat finish, and stainless hardware can last 20+ years outdoors when installed correctly. Proper anchoring and professional installation are what protect that lifespan.

Do I need a permit to install an in-ground basketball hoop?

Most residential in-ground installs don't require a permit, but HOA rules and local setback codes can apply. We call 811 before every dig to safely mark underground utilities, and we'll advise on the best, compliant placement.

The Installation Process

What does the installation process look like?

After you book, you'll receive an email with step-by-step delivery and installation plans and a short online questionnaire about your site and preferred setup. We send you installation dates to choose from and a calendar invite, and you pick exactly where you want your hoop. Then we handle the heavy lifting: we call 811 to ensure a safe dig, deliver the hoop, bring all the materials, perform the build, and complete a safety inspection before we leave.

Are your installers certified and insured?

Yes. Every Play All Day installation is handled by trained, certified, and fully insured professionals who meet the same standards coast to coast.

Can I install the hoop myself?

You can, but we strongly recommend against it. These systems are pro-grade and heavy. For safety and top performance, our certified pros deliver, anchor, level, and dial in your hoop so it's game-ready from day one.

Coverage & Scheduling

Where does Play All Day install?

We install across all 48 contiguous US states. Enter your ZIP on our Locations page to confirm coverage in your area.

How soon can you install my hoop?

Scheduling depends on your area and installer availability. After you book, we'll send you the soonest available dates to choose from.

Site Prep & Court Planning

How do I pick the best spot for my hoop?

Plan your court so you have room to play. A few key dimensions: the free throw line sits 15 feet from the backboard; the three-point line ranges from about 19.75 feet (high school) to 23.75 feet (NBA); and leave at least 24 inches of clearance behind the pole for height adjustment. Not sure? Our team will help you choose the ideal location during scheduling.

Do I need to do anything before install day?

We handle the heavy lifting, including calling 811 for a safe dig. Just make sure the install area is clear and accessible — we'll confirm all the details with you beforehand.

After Your Install

How long after install can I play?

No waiting — once your hoop is professionally installed, you're cleared to play. Game on.

Can you help me if I move homes?

Absolutely. Play All Day can help you move your hoop. We'll disassemble and detach the hoop at your current home, transfer it to your new home, build the new anchor system there, and properly reassemble and level it — game-ready at your new place.
